Fishing in the Pikes Peak Region

The area around Pikes Peak has some justifiably famous trout water with catchy names like the “Dream Stream,” and Eleven Mile Canyon, but plenty of little-known lakes and streams to get away from it all and enjoy a quiet day on the water too. Whether you are an experienced fly fisher, or just looking to taking the kids out with a foam container of night-crawlers and a bobber, there’s something for you here.

Whether it’s for advice on flies (or bait), flows, or gear and guides, local fly shops and outfitters are the best place to start.

Fly Shops and Outfitters

Angler’s Covey – Colorado Springs

On 21st and Highway 24 on the West side of Colorado Springs, Anglers Covey is the best place to start if you don’t know where to start. They have a plethora of rental gear and boats, whether you want to spin cast or fly fish. You can hire a knowledgeble local guide or get some friendly advice and local water and conditions.

South Platte Fly Shop – Woodland Park

I’ve had good experiences here, so its worth a stop if you are in WP.

Tumbling Trout – Lake George

Friendly place to stop for local patterns and advice opposite the road from Highway 24 to Eleven Mile Canyon. We hear the BBQ joint nearby is stellar too.

DIY Fishing in the Pikes Peak Region

That said here are a few go-to places that are often great.

Dream Stream

Best for advanced fly fishers.

Eleven Mile Canyon

Best for intermediate fly fishers, and who loves a good view! The canyon is full of trees, cliffs, and the river cascading over boulders. ($10 fee per vehicle, bring cash)

Happy Meadows

Best for families with young kids, and for tubing (which can also be a downer serious fly fishers on busy days). That said, I have one some of my best dry fly evenings here after the crowds thinned out.

Manitou Lake

Best family destination for floating and worm and bobber fishing. ($7-8 fee, bring cash)

Note: Fishing licenses required for anyone 16 and over in Colorado and can be purchased at any of the above outfitters and at Walmart or many other local hardware our sporting goods stores.

Have fun out there and send us your victory fish pics!
